Boy Playing near blue water

France was at the top of our list when looking for a destination not too far from where we live in the UK. This year, we wanted to take the kids to Disneyland Paris as the kids have never been, and well, we thought, before we drift off somewhere far to Asia, let’s make it happen. At the same time, we wanted to try out a family-friendly escape to Eurocamp as we love having everything accessible in one place where we don’t have to organise everything. Something that still feels like a holiday but where we could also relax and spend some family time together.

We stayed at Eurocamp La Croix du Vieux Pont, a 5-star camping resort not too far from Paris and Disneyland Paris. We also chose to stay at La Croix du Vieux Pont for convenience; coming from the UK, it is easily accessible, only 3 hours from the port of Calais, France.

How to Get to Eurocamp La Croix Vieux Pont from the UK?

We wanted to have our car, so the best option was to take a ferry from Dover to Calais. Prices vary according to when and how early you book.

Our ticket cost around £200 return with car and space for three bikes. Remember that there may be long queues during the holiday season as extra checks are done at immigration borders (thanks to Brexit !), so bring healthy snacks and fun activities to keep the kids busy.

When you reach the Eurocamp site, you will be checked in and given the keys to your place. You will be shown your tent place if you have booked a tent. There are many kinds of accommodation to suit every budget and need, including tent spaces, Motor homes, safari tents and chalets. We were booked into an XL Motor home with all the amenities needed for our stay, including a fully furnished kitchen and a comfortable indoor and outdoor space with a terrace, relaxing chairs and a BBQ.

La Croix du Vieux Pont Camping Resort

This was our first experience with Eurocamp holidays, and whilst we were not blessed with good weather (we went in May half term),but I was still impressed with the fun things to do with kids, even on rainy days. There were so many activities onsite, including:

  • A kids’ club in the morning between 10 am and 12 pm, which our kids loved. It was a chance to make friends with other kids.
  • An indoor and outdoor pool with slides and a toddler pool.
  • Ping pong tables (you can rent the rackets and ball)
  • Tennis court (again, you can rent the equipment)
  • Basketball and football court (you can rent the basketball)
  • Bowling
  • Soft play area

There were also optional paid activities:

  • Pedal and canoe boats for rent
  • Archery and climbing tower.
  • Laser quest, perfect for the rainy days

Onsite Facilities at camping La Croix du Vieux Pont

There were plenty of facilities, meaning you could stay at the resort for the whole week if you wanted. There were restaurants and bars with activities happening (we really enjoyed the lotto night in the beach bar cafe). If you don’t feel like eating at the on-site restaurants, there is an on-site grocery store and bakery where you can get your fresh bread and croissants in the morning.

WiFi

As we work remotely, we need access to WiFi. Exceptionally, during our visit, we were told the main internet provider in the area was working on the fibre connection, which meant our internet connection did not work. This was our only difficulty during our stay as we heavily depended on WiFi and internet connection. However, we were told that there is usually no problem with this. If you need to work during your trip, maybe check with them to ensure they have no prior work to do before your trip.

On a good note, this also means the Eurocamp should be equipped with a good fibre connection now. Don’t hesitate to confirm with reception. And Wifi is available all across the camp.

Family-friendly things to do in the area.

We chose this location because we wanted to visit Disneyland Paris, and it was perfect for that. By car, the park is about 1hr 20 min. The camping resort also has buses departing from the resort to Disneyland Paris; just check with them for the timetable. You also have Parc Asterix, which is near by.

Final thoughts about La Croix du Vieux Pont

We really enjoyed our stay here. Although we are used to fully organising our trips ourselves, it was great to have a trip where all the activities and facilities were under one resort. The camping resort was beautiful, with lakes and even a man-made beach. We really enjoyed taking our bikes and riding around the camping resort and also felt safe letting our kids ride around the resort. We would definitely love to do another Eurocamp holiday without the rain, though ;).
