Our review of Bophut Ibis Koh Samui, Thailand
When we were planning our trip to Koh Samui, we wanted a hotel that checked all the boxes. It needed to be family-friendly, conveniently located, and offer a great balance of comfort and affordability. After a lot of research, we chose Ibis Samui Bophut. Our decision was based on its proximity to Koh Samui airport. We also considered the amenities the hotel offered. Below is a full review of our experience staying at Ibis Bophut Koh Samui.
A Convenient Location That Made Everything Easy
The location of Ibis Samui Bophut couldn’t have been better for us. After a long flight with kids in tow, I appreciated that the hotel was just a quick 15-minute drive from Koh Samui Airport. It’s situated right on Bophut Beach, one of the island’s most family-friendly beaches, which meant we could start relaxing almost immediately.
Being so close to Fisherman’s Village was another huge bonus. Just a 10-minute walk away, it became our go-to spot in the evenings for strolling, shopping, and sampling delicious street food. I loved that the hotel gave us the convenience of exploring Koh Samui’s top attractions without needing to spend hours in transit.
Family-Friendly Features That Made Our Stay Stress-Free
As a parent, I’m always on the lookout for hotels that cater to families, and Ibis Samui Bophut definitely delivered. The outdoor pool was a huge hit with our kids. It had a shallow section perfect for little ones, while we enjoyed lounging on the sunbeds and soaking up the tropical vibes. The hotel also had a small play area, which gave the kids something extra to look forward to each day.
The staff were warm and welcoming, always ready with a smile and eager to help. They even provided us with extra pool towels and tips on nearby activities, which made our stay all the more enjoyable.
Cocktail Hour (Twice a Day!)—A Treat for the Adults
While the kids were having the time of their lives in the pool, my husband and I looked forward to the hotel’s daily cocktail hour, which actually happens twice a day! It was such a treat to sip on a perfectly mixed mojito or a tropical piña colada while watching the sunset over Bophut Beach. These moments of calm amidst the lively family atmosphere were exactly what we needed to feel like we were on vacation. Mocktails are also included in the cocktail hour if you don’t drink alcohol.
Onsite Massages That Added a Touch of Luxury
One of my favourite experiences at Ibis Samui Bophut was the outdoor massage service. It was set up in a tranquil corner of the property. The sound of the waves in the background was soothing. It created the perfect way to unwind after a day of exploring Koh Samui. The therapists were professional, and the massages were both affordable and high-quality. It felt like a touch of luxury without having to step off the property.
A Breakfast Buffet That Delighted Everyone
If there’s one thing I always look forward to at a hotel, it’s breakfast. Ibis Samui Bophut did not disappoint. Every morning, we were greeted with an impressive spread that catered to every taste.
For me, it was all about the fresh tropical fruit, flaky pastries, and made-to-order eggs. My husband loved the hearty Western options like sausages and pancakes, while the kids couldn’t get enough of the cereal and doughnuts. There were even a few Thai dishes on the menu, which I appreciated as a chance to try something new. The coffee was strong and flavorful, giving me the perfect start to my day.

Rooms That Were Simple but Comfortable
The rooms at Ibis Samui were clean, modern, and well-designed, offering everything we needed for a comfortable stay. We had a family room with a garden view, which was both cozy and quiet. While the decor was simple, the beds were incredibly comfortable, and the room had all the essentials—air conditioning, free Wi-Fi, tea facility and a small balcony where we could sit and relax.
What I really liked was the focus on practicality. The room may not have been luxurious, but it was perfect for a family that spends most of the day outdoors exploring the island.
Exploring Koh Samui’s Attractions from Ibis Samui
Staying at Ibis Samui Bophut made it so easy to explore the top attractions in Koh Samui. We started with a visit to the Big Buddha Temple, just a short drive away. The towering 12-meter golden Buddha statue was a highlight of our trip, and the kids loved climbing the steps to get a panoramic view of the island.
Another day, we ventured out to the Samui Elephant Sanctuary, where we spent an unforgettable morning feeding and learning about the rescued elephants. It was a heartwarming experience that left a lasting impression on all of us.
One evening, we wandered over to Fisherman’s Village, where the vibrant night market had everything from local handicrafts to delicious Thai street food. It was so convenient to have such a lively area within walking distance of the hotel.
For a more adventurous day, we joined a snorkeling trip to Ang Thong National Marine Park, an archipelago of 42 islands with pristine beaches and crystal-clear water. Knowing we could return to the comfort of Ibis Samui after such an active day made the excursion even better.

Reflecting on our stay, I can confidently say that Ibis Samui Bophut is one of the best places to stay in Koh Samui, especially for families. Here’s why I’d recommend it:
