Choose your resort
Setting off in a seaplane across the turquoise waters to your chosen pristine islands is an unforgettable experience and truly sets the tone for your luxurious vacation. But choosing your resort may be a difficult decision, with so many stunning options available. Overwater villas and private bungalows line the sands of the private island resorts, with plenty of facilities only a short walk away.
Gazing over the Indian Ocean from your private balcony, you can spot dolphins and turtles amidst other colourful marine life in the lagoons surrounding the resorts. With spas, watersports facilities and even private water slides, most of the resorts in the Maldives bring a new level of grandeur. Some resorts even have amazing underwater restaurants for a truly magical dining experience.
Dive in
As well as enjoying the spectacular views above the water, make sure to reserve some time for exploring the immense wonderland below the surface. There are many coral reefs to be explored in the Maldives, home to a diverse range of amazingly colourful sea creatures. Whether you try snorkelling or scuba diving, you’re likely to see plenty of exciting species of reef fish, barracuda, sea turtles, crabs, dolphins, sharks and whales.
With plenty of experienced diving guides to hand on the resorts, you’ll be in safe hands, so don’t be put off by the mention of sharks. White tip reef sharks are in abundance in the Maldives, and they actually keep other, more aggressive shark species away. They are very used to human visitors and aren’t interested in us as they don’t consider us a food source.
Treat yourself to the spa
The Maldives host a vast selection of serene and heavenly spas, with some, even featuring glass-bottom treatment rooms, so you can watch the sealife drifting below you as you enjoy a deep tissue massage. Choose from Himalayan salt scrubs, manicures, acupuncture, facials, reflexology and many more luxurious treatments to feel like a superstar.
In the exclusive spa village of the Shangri-la Villingili Resort, you can even have a treatment which involves massaging your entire body with a cowrie shell while coconut oil is drizzled onto your skin. Many spas offer buffet breakfasts or other refreshments alongside their packages, so you’ll be pleasantly pampered and refreshed by the end of the day.
Destress and switch off
Holidaying in the Maldives is so amazingly relaxing if you take the time to savour the moments and avoid your mobile or laptop. The scenery alone is well worth soaking in without distraction, so unless you’re taking photographs, we recommend switching them off entirely. As such a serene and luxurious destination, you should have no problem de-stressing in the Maldives.
